Dramaturgy Lab

Ayse Draz and Anne-Marije van den Bersselaar co-led this workshop departing from dramaturgy as it is defined within the performing arts, and moving outward. Dramaturgy Lab explores the dramaturgical process as a catalyser within the broader context of contemporary creative fields: a cognitive action that sets itself in motion against the problematics of meaning, interpretation, and expression.

Participants analysed the mechanisms of dramaturgical thinking and experienced how these might be applied across disciplines where storytelling, communication, or expression are central. Rather than treating dramaturgy as a discipline-specific tool, the workshop treated it as a process, one that becomes valuable precisely when it encounters unfamiliar territory.

Dramaturgy Lab was open to all practitioners curious about how dramaturgical thinking works, what it does, and what it might do when carried into other fields.

Held at Akbank Sanat, Istanbul. With thanks to the Dutch Consulate for their support.
