The project connects theatrical rehearsal with financial speculation. Goldin+Senneby constructed a precarious system in which an algorithmic trading strategy, developed by cultural economist İsmail Ertürk, directly determines the duration of the actors’ contracts, and therefore the duration of the performances themselves. The financial performance of the strategy governs when the work ends. In Istanbul, the strategy ran successfully through to the final two days of the exhibition.
Splitting open the relationship between finance and art, the project holds up a mirror to the instability of high finance and the equally vulnerable conditions of artistic labour, two worlds rarely placed in such direct, structural contact.
