Türkan Hanım’ın Ölümü
Ayşe Draz directed Türkan Hanım’ın Ölümü, (The Death of Türkân Hanım) a theatrical story reading developed in collaboration with Özlem Hemiş and Tiyatro Hemhâl, based on the story of the same name by Turkish author Selçuk Baran (1933–1999). The piece was first presented at Loca on the occasion of International Women's Day, 8 March, and later commissioned by Yapı Kredi as a recording during the pandemic, making it available to wider audiences online.

The story centres on a beautiful middle-aged woman living among the grandeur of antique objects, behind tightly drawn curtains, a life of quiet monotony punctuated by lavish dinner gatherings, an obsession with death, and the secrets that lie behind it. As she herself says: "Just as I would never let my antiques gather dust, I cannot surrender my deaths to the ashes of forgetting. I keep all my deaths in my memory, as fresh as the day they happened." Told through the voices of those around her, the story is transformed in this production into what Draz calls a "theatrical story reading", a form that sits between literature and performance.
