Yangın Yeri (The Fireground)
Yangın Yeri (The Fireground) is a staged reading directed by Ayşe Draz, presented at Akbank Sanat Sahne, Beyoğlu, as part of the Yeni Metin Tiyatro Festivali; Turkey's only theatre festival dedicated to playwriting, organised by GalataPerform since 2012 as the festival arm of the Yeni Metin Yeni Tiyatro Project, which has been running since 2006. Each year, one text written in the Yeni Metin Workshops is awarded the Play of the Year prize and staged as a reading. Yangın Yeri, written by Nejdet Serkan Sadıkoğlu, was this edition's recipient, presented with the support of Free Stage PPA and Akbank Sanat.
A family in the middle of a dystopia, estranged from themselves, or perhaps transformed by a reality they have inhabited for too long. Are they living? What is life? How do we know we are alive? Yangın Yeri sits with these questions in a world that is at once recognizable and deeply unsettling.
The production featured visual design by Rıza Efe Reis, assistant direction by Umut Rışvanlı, and performances by Sedat Kalkavan, Arda Yeşillikçi, Elif Ongan Tekçe, and Adil Ömer Çetindağ.
